Ecolab

Personalized Job Search

Problem

At Ecolab, we hired nearly 10,000 employees annually across a wide range of roles, but our careers site treated several distinct audiences the same. Candidates struggled to understand what made roles in Sales & Service, Pest Elimination, and Supply Chain unique.

Biggest Challenges

🧰 Reduce friction in job discovery by tailoring content and navigation to the unique needs, motivations, and expectations of each audience segment.

Process Overview

Process

  1. Conducted Stakeholder interviews and alignment on hiring goals.

  2. Defined candidate profiles for each track (motivations, pain points, decision drivers).

  3. User Flow, Wireframing & Prototyping: Created content maps and lofi layouts adaptable across pages.

  4. Content Strategy: Developed messaging, emphasizing career growth, impact, and Ecolab’s value proposition.

User Flow & Content Mapping

I synthesized insights into persona-driven messaging, layout and designed a dedicated landing page concepts with role-specific storytelling, clear value propositions, and tailored calls to action.

Experience Visuals

  • Clean, Modular Layouts: Hero banners with aspirational imagery tied to each career track.

  • Consistent Branding: Maintained Ecolab’s corporate identity while introducing subtle variations for each segment.

  • Mobile-First Design: Optimized for quick job browsing on mobile devices.

*Below are examples of the desktop and mobile experiences of the landing pages for personas as well as a sub-company.

Results & Key Takeaways

  • Improved Engagement: Increased time-on-page and reduced bounce rates across all three segments.

  • Higher Conversion: Streamlined application flow led to measurable uptick in completed applications.

  • Lesson Learned: Personalization drives candidate confidence and accelerates decision-making.

Our Process Application Prototype

Problem

Job candidates often have limited visibility into what happens after they submit an application, which can create uncertainty, frustration, and disengagement during the hiring process. To remain competitive in attracting talent, employers need to provide transparency, guidance, and ongoing engagement throughout the candidate journey. Ecolab needed a way to clearly communicate hiring expectations, reduce ambiguity, and keep candidates informed and connected from application through hiring.

Biggest Challenges

💼 Competitive market

🖥️ Need for highly engaging content

👥 Broad range of audience personas

⚙️ Communicating a multi-step process, concisely

Process

I analyzed the Social, Economic, Technological and Cultural factors that apply to candidate experiences. One important statistic I found is that, “72% of candidates say the smoothness of an interview process would affect their final decision on whether or not to take the job. – Cronofy”

Competitive Analysis

I analyzed other job search mobile applications, the challenges of the applications as well as the stand-out features. I found that the space for user profiles, suggested job functionality, and easy access were helpful user experiences. However, although there are a lot of convenient candidate features with other applications, the conversion push is aggressive and candidates could benefit from more information and tips to help them during a stressful time.

Interview Process

I consulted with two different groups: stakeholders and potential users. Both groups offered insights via interviews. Stakeholders were asked a series of questions which helped me better understand what is essential to build candidates’ knowledge about Ecolab’s hiring process and potential candidates helped me understand what information was important and engaging for them to learn about a company.

User Flows & Content Mapping

The simplifies user flow helps funnel candidates through a seamless, engaging, and informative experience.

The purpose of an “Our Process” mobile application, was to create a tool that level set candidate expectations and streamlined how Ecolab communicates the application process while coaching users along the way. The application shows users why Ecolab is a great place to work and improves the process for candidates and recruiters.

Below are some of the frame experiences. You can view the full prototype here.
